  • *Very* OT (sorry!), where's my RAID array??

I've stuck a Abit RAID Hotrod 100 card in my machine, and a couple of Maxtor
    D740x 80gb hdd's.
Everything went smooth, I configured the array in the setup utility and
after exiting setup the bios utility found the drives (I recognised the name I'd
given them) yet when I went into Windows I can't find my new super-fast
    160gb drive.
    Where is the bugger?!??!?!
I ran the utility where you can see the status of the array and everything
is fine, all drivers are installed correctly yet where is the blumin' drive?
    Thanks,
    Will

I've since removed the two hdd's and the RAID card, and installed one of the hdd's as master on the second IDE channel.
Stilll the same - appears in device manager as another hdd but doesn't appear in windows explorer.
    What am I doing wrong?
Grrrrrrr, I want to try capturing to my super-fast RAID!
    Arrrghhhh!

Have you used fdisk to create dos partitions then formatted the drives? If not windows won't see them

        Erm, no (blushing).
My floopy drive doesn't like to work in windows for some reason, it'll only work at bootup.
I can run a Win98 startup disk, but will I be able to identify the drives from the disk?

ah, that's the problem..You have to use fdisk and format from dos. If you don't know how to do I'll try to put a guide together

yes you need to use fdisak and format...and you might want to check your bios for a "report no floppy to win95" option to see if you can your floppy working in windows

Very strange this one, I've been down this route before and couldn't find anything in the BIOS.
It was working up to a point though, can't remember when it stopped as like everyone else floppy disks are few and far between nowadays.
It definatley boots using the Win98 startup disk so at least I can FDISK & Format.
              Thanks,
              Will

I can't believe I didn't think of this, I'd done it before when I bought an IBM a couple of years ago.
I take it I need to install both drives as the primary - one at a time of course! (ie. remove my existing IBM drive) and Fdisk and Format them from there?
I Fdisk'ed one last night (I forgot to format, it was getting late!) and stuck it on the secondary IDE channel as master but the Win98 startup disk didn't see it, it only saw the primary IBM on the first IDE channel.
                Thanks Keith (again!),
