  • printer to a wireless network ?

    Hello,

Is it possible to connect a printer directly to a wireless network (similar to connecting a printer directly to a wired network) ? If so, what type of equipment does one need ?
(all wireless devices I seem to find, are either access points or pci/pcmcia cards).

    Thanks !

Well an access point would work if your printer is ethernet capable.

Otherwise, wireless print servers do exist:

Hmm, but wouldn't an access point be overkill ? Of course, if it gets the job done... current access points aren't *that* expensive.

Theoretically, if the printer is not ethernet-capable, is it then possible to connect a wired printserver to the access point (and the printer to the printserver) ?
Main reason for asking, is that a lot of manufacturers offer solutions faster than 11 Mbit, but if you need to resort to a wireless printserver from another manufacturer, you are stuck at 11 Mbit speed.
