Looks like this is just acknowledging what people on this board have commented on in recent past.

    Taiwanese Capacitors Leaking, Exploding

ackthpt writes "A few astute slashdot readers were on to something back when this article was published. After a tip (at e-insight.net) on failing caps over at amdmb I did a little looking around and found this article by Dennis Zogbi on TTI Inc.'s site, which goes into more detail. In a nutshell, many motherboards are now failing due to electolytic capacitors made with an inferior water-based electolyte. Within days or a few months these capacitors build up hydrogen gas and blow the rubber bung out the end of the capacitor, leaking electolyte and causing havoc. The problem may be widespread, as many consumer electronics made with these capacitors may also fail prematurely. Gary Headlee specializes in Abit motherboards, but as his FAQ states, he will work on other makes and the FAQ has more info on capacitor problems."

Well they've always have been made with a water based electrolyte, to that must mean they're using the lowest grade el cheapo electrolytic caps to be found.

We've been saying that around here for better than three years now, so this is news?

very true After reading the 'where do we go from here' thread,
I wondered where all of 'you' would be posting. I couldn't imagine not getting various tidbits from the likes of you every now and then Mordrid.

If you buy an abit board then the terrorists have already won.

                          No sh*t

I'm goddamn cursed with the caps...

I bought the Abit KA7-100 because it was touted as the best OCing board at the time. One year later, its caps leaked goo all over the mobo. Then I bought the Epox 8K3A+, again because it was said to be the best OCing mobo at the time. I made sure that it didn't include those dodgy JPCON caps that made my KA7-100 die. Less than a month later, I read that the caps on my Epox (I recall they are TAYEH) are probably even worse. I'm currently low on cash and can't afford a new motherboard - just fearing that some day I will end up with nothing but a box of PC popcorn.

Back when my Abit decided to to bang-bang Spike, our 110 lb. Ridgeback/Rottweiler mix, was laying on the labs floor next to the tower. He shot out of there so fast he damned near impaled the door across the hall with his head.

For a while I thought we would have to take the poor dog to an analyst

Four caps on my Abit BE6-II mobo blew about a year ago. This is a 440BX mobo, back when Abit was supposedly not as bad. My even older BX6r2 is still going.
