  • G400 stuck at AGP 1x

ok i've put my g400 back in and sold my gf3, enough games for me this year
anyway, the card is stuck at AGP 1x. mtstu (final) reports

    motherboard AGP version: v2
    motherboard agp speed : 1x
video card agp speed : 1x

    and powerstrip says:

    AGP revision - 2.00
    AGP transfer rates supported - 1x, 2x, 4x
Current AGP transfer rate - 1x

i already set the driver to 4x in mtstu (rebooted of course) but it's still stuck at 1x. AGP4x is enabled in the bios of course. my gf3 did run properly at 4x. and the g400 also made 4x without any problems in my old ECS K7S5A. it's the first time i put the card in since i have the MSI 745. any idea?

did you use the latest drivers with the latest version of MTSTU ?

I think certain combinations (other than both latest) don't work properly.

off-topic: my 32MB G400 DH did 2x AGP on my Abit BX6r2 at 89 MHz AGP bus speed 100 percent stable, but locks up at 2x in any 3D accelerated application on both my Asus TUSL2-C or TUSL2-M. So does my G400 16MB DH. Even at 1x AGP, 3Dfarq2000 quits to the desktop within 3 benchmark loops... (though never locks up my system fortunately).
I guess the TUSL2- series has an issue with signal noise in combination with a DiME card like the Matrox G-series ones.

Fortunately it doesn't make a difference in framerate for games with the G400

          Just why are you worrying?
1x and 2x give almost the same performance... about 1% difference.
