  • VC suggestions for Autodesk Inventor6

A teacher friend of mine was asking me which video card would be best suited to his budget to run Autodesk Inventor 6. The minimum requirements call for a "workstation class opengl video card". Since he is in a small school his computer budget is quite limited.

    Some system specs are:

ECS Socket A SIS730 chipset based mobo. (with empty AGP slot)
    Duron 700
    512MB SDRAM
    21" Gateway monitor
    Windows98
    yada, yada, yada

I have zero experience running such apps and was wondering if there is anything out there that could do some of the necessary basic 3D rendering for under $300US ? He doesn't need 60fps, but >1fps would be useful

Could a G400 or G550 have enough OpenGL support to deal with this??

    Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

I am actually looking for an answer to this.

Infact, running inventor on a Radeon 7000, GF2MX400 is already sufficient.

But same like me, I usually run inventor on my office desktop, I am looking for sharp 2D images on the 21 inch. Radeon 7000 is good. But not the GF2MX.

Get a Radeon 7000 at least.

      Hope this help.

      Audigy DE | Hauppage Wintheater

Personally, I'd suggest a pro opengl card for better precision.

Look along the lines of the 3dlabs wildcat vp 560 for $134 at Newegg.

Just got off the phone with a friend that uses inventer (he is a draftmen in sacramento). He sugested a OGL card with at least 128 megs of ram (256 would be ideal). He is using a FX5900 at work so anything in that range should work. He mentioned that the 3dlabs or fireGl cards would be better but most any of the high end gamer card will work fine.

              P werky fine here - not using Acad inventor, but a highend ($15,000 U.S.) CAD/CAM s/w w/opengl rendering engine.
