  • Court: Itanium infringes patents

A federal court ruled Thursday that Intel's Itanium processor violates patents owned by Intergraph and ordered Intel to pay $150 million in damages.

This is actually the second lawsuit Intel has lost to Intergraph. The first one cost Intel $300 million, but was done out-of-court for the Pentium chips. At that point they made an agreement that they would limit the second lawsuit to $150 million. But, if Intel appeals and loses, they pay an extra $100 million.

    Ouch!
