  • Things to know about 1.02 drivers

    Hey Guys,
As many of you noticed the 1.02 drivers are out. Of course they're still beta for all the main features they offer. The main reason i want to talk to you about them is because of the game profiles. Now you can setup your own settings and no need to hack the registry anymore, i think Typedef Enum requested this feature Another thing to note that the dynamic lighting in Quake 2 engine games is no more, so you can frag away with Counter Strike. We're still fixing bugs as we speak and i appreciate game bugs be posted here since as you saw the final driver is planned for the end of month so the clock is ticking Not to mention hardware cursor is now available in Surround Gaming, so NWN should be ok with it. Last but not least, i need to know from the XP SP1 people if they're still having problems getting Battlefield 1942 to work with these drivers and the new apptimizer. I need to know since Battlefield 1942 will be posted on the Surround Gaming page if everyone is happy and got it up running,

Stay tuned for more features and other surprises...

    Regards,

    Hi R0M,

There a post in the hardware forum regarding issues with the .NET distribution and these drivers, just wanted to let you know so that the issue can be ironed before the end of the month for the final release! Thanks for the updates as well, theyre greatly appreciated.

    Thanks again,

Yes i noticed, one thing you could try is to uninstall the 1.02 drivers. They offer a new uninstaller which is better then the previous one and then install them again fresh and see if you still get those .net errors. I am more concerned about gaming bugs since that is my area, the other bugs i'll mention to Haig,

        Thanks R0M!

Just wanted to bring this to everyone's attention is all, at first I wasnt sure what the issue was but appears not to be gaming related but more .NET related {at first I had just assumed it was a driver bug with 3dmark because that was what had been crashing}.

        Keep up the good work,

        Mike

          - No more weird Menu Corruption with BF1942 and XP-SP1 anymore. Thanks for the quick fix.

With FAA enabled, the Text is still kind of squished. I dont know about SG but ill let you know tomorrow. -

Poligon Outlining when FAA is anabled in some games is worst than ever.

The game I use for testing is The Thing. Poligons were outlined in white when there was fog, but now almost every poligon is outlined.

Please fix this, since I am waiting for this to play the game.

You'll see the diference between the 1.01 and the 1.02 beta drivers. With 1.01 there is almost no outline, but with 1.02 there are a lot.

the bugs I have discovered so far with the 1.02 drivers:

              general bugs:

missing skybox in return to castle wofenstein version 1.32

blocky particles in quake2 version 3.20

some mipmaps in unreal version 226 are too dark, this can be seen in raajigar mines(level 3) on the unstable wooden briges in the lava cave, if seen from a distance.

grainy text in darkstone version 1.0.5

              16xfaa related bugs:

serious sam: fe version 1.05 (haven´t checked SE yet): missing lensflares when 16xfaa is used.

              anisotropic related bugs:

missing higher-tap anisotropic filtering (seriously! I hope you guys will add this in the future!!!)

unreal tournament version 436, texture corruption when anisotropic filtering is used.

              P.S. game profiles rocks!

I've tested Serious Sam: Second Encounter and the FAA in the Technology Test is just nasty. There was a slight problem with the 1.01 drivers, but it's really nasty for the 1.02. Though the reflective floor is fixed in the 1.02 drivers

                            Two bugs

                            1) Unreal Tournament still doesn't like AF but it's enabled by default in the per game settings. UT really needs AF, but it don't work. I would recommend fixing it in the driver myself

                            2) Gigacolour doesn't work in the per game settings. Or it's a UI flaw - take yer pick. The problem is when I set the desktop to gigacolour and NWN to gigacolour. NWN gets all pshycidelllic - showing that there's a gigacolour conflict. I think that the per-game gigacolour setting has no effect.

Myself, K6-III or TDB commented on this months ago. We're all ex-Kyro users and PowerVR chipset driver have had this driver feature since Day 1.

                              And it's dead handy

You guys have my eternal blessing for being the first non-PowerVR guys to implement this

(although, PowerVR drivers historically needed this feature to enable game to actually work)
