  • Lack of weirder VESA support for Parhelia

Some of you may remember the garbled BIOS problem I and others had with the Parhelia a while ago...well after playing around with Linux and other stuff like that I have noticed that there are A LOT of cases in which the screen is either completely corrupted or with weird colors....this only happens in cases in which theoretical text mode is forced to display high res with a lot of colors...it can be seen in bootscreens, when Linux restarts (and thus scrolls text in high-res) and other similar cases...in a review I saw that this should be solved in a future BIOS update...does anybody know, will this upgrade ever be released, I don't need to know a "when", just an "if"....And BTW, it's definetly not a heat issue, I have sub 30 degree case temps and it works perfectly in anything else....

I see the same problem when using a graphical boot loader. I've been able to get Linux to work just fine with the Parhelia (as long as you use GCC 2.9x)

It's weird, because my Acronis OS Selector works perfectly as a bootloader in 1280x1024, however Lindows' bootloader for example has completely corrupted colors. I think I'll approach the Tech Support Forum with this.

        I've seen the same problems
I also heard it supposed to be fixed in a bios upgrade.. but I haven't found one their site. someone I talked to on IRC also said that for linux it going to have to be fixed in the driver.. so someone should ask on their forums.

how could this possibly be fixed in a driver for linux or windows or any other OS? it'd have to be BIOS level. Lilo loads before any other drivers, and the VESA is BIOS limited. Sure you can use the VESA modes for windows/linux/alternative OS, but it's the VESA modes themselves that seem to have the problem. For example, there is the Amithlon, which is the Amiga OS on a bootable CD, and you can play with the OS just with that, BUT on the Parhelia all you get is a messed up video mode with off colors and a still bouncing ball. It worked fine on my friend's laptop though.
