I've got the 80 GB, 8 MB cache drive. Damn fast little toy. THe 200 GB will be even faster with it's higher data density...but too expensive for my taste.

Yp, WDs with 8MB are by far best IDE drives out there right now. And about the only ones left (except some Maxtor IDEs, but those are kinda crap compared to WD ) with 3 year warranty.

Samsung also still has 3year warranties on their HD's and considers it a competitive advantage...

                Maxtor is great!

I would not buy another WD drive if they were the last ones on the planet. Every single one of their drives I've had has failed; many of them twice.

If you think WD is bad, try an IBM....

I have two of them. (One slightly prior to the 75GXP -I forget the model number, but it's a 5400RPM drive and one 120GXP) and they have (are) working flawlessly. Just this week, a 6 or 7 year old IBM laptop drive is showing signes of dying, but 6 years is long past it's life expectancy.

Sorry, didnt know some of you are die had Maxtor drives. I dont really care about past and base my oppinions on practical experience, and in my oppinion WDs are best IDE harddrives you can buy right now.

Not looking to start a flamewar here, see the *in my opinion* part

Anyway, about the 200gb model - wish I could afford it

if you ask me, maxtor is a POS (or i was extemely unlucky). in my entire life i had 5 dead HD's, 3 of them maxtor (others were IBM). 2 Maxtor DX740 40GB failed in the first week, a DX540 80GB after about 6 months. Those IBM were a 10k rpm 9GB SCSI (was my fault though), the other a 40GB sth.

I'm waiting for the 100+GB Barracudas to come out
