  • Known issues Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 250 with XP (PCI)

I am think of purchasing the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 250 (PCI version).
I have heard there are problems with full resolution capture under XP. Is this true?

I have also heard if the audio is compressed, frames will be dropped. Is software provided (or freely available) that can recompress the audio stream after the video stream is completely captured?

Is there any diference in hardware/software between the models sold in PAL based countries and NTSC based countries?

    Thanks

    Gamebox Athlon 1.3GHz Gforce3

Can't answer you specific questions about the WinTV-PVR 250, but I tried the WinTV-PVR/USB about a year ago, quality was great but mpeg streams were "non-compliant" meaning I couldn't edit them or import into my authoring software. The supplied "convert" program was so slow to run I might as well just use a software encoder. So I quickly returned it.

Perhaps the 250 is better, or the problems have been fixed, but my advice is only buy from a place that'll take it back without hassles if it doesn't work as claimed. If they haven't fixed it in a year it'll likely never happen!
