  • Oddness of Serious Sam: The Second Encounter

Ok, I just ran Serious Sam 2 benchmarks and from the numbers I was getting, FAA was FASTER than it was without. With Supersampling x4 forced it was about the same speed as with NO AA enabled. Though it looked like crap comparitively with no AA, and with FAA there were certain objects that have the notorious lines that make the models look like they're wireframes. I was playing the game in 640x480 and looking at the lowest sustained FPS. With Supersampling x4 it was around 19fps, without any AA it was about 18fps, and with FAA it was 20. Quite odd, I'd say.

    hi,

    well, i don´t dare to run 640*480 on my 21" ...

but on 1024*768*32 an the extrem-quality-script i get an average of 38 fps on Valley Jaguar
    (min 24 max 110)

with FAA the numbers drop about 0,5 fps and it looks just fine. (drivers 231/W2000)

Um, why are your framerates so low leech? (18fps without AA?)
Or did I miss something somewhere?

That's the LOWEST the FPS go. And the only reason I have 640x480 on my 21" monitor is because my Processor speed is only 850mhz. Not sure why it's so slow. I only ran some quick tests with the Yodeller test. The highest fps was in the 660's. Average was 53 I think with FAA on, then it was 50 without it.

Just ran it again in 1024x768 and the FPS were virtually the same. I got a high peak of 1220 fps, low was 14.3.

High Sustained was 737.5 and low sustained was 17.5

Sorry leech. I wasn't criticizing your results. I don't (yet) have SS2, and those numbers just sounded too low for the Parhelia. However, it sounds more like it's your processor (based on the similar results at higher resolution).

Not a problem. And most definitely it's the processor. As a side note, after running the demo "Yodeller" I tried to play the game cooperatively with my brother and it'd go through all the loading then BLAM BSOD and a dump of memory to the drive. Did it twice, with FAA and without. Then I changed it from OpenGL to Direct3D and it worked fine, go figure.

You're missing out, Serious Sam2 is pretty damned fun. (as long as you like games where you run around screaming OH SHIT constantly!)

Hehe. I agree. I have the first game, and I'm getting the second sometime this week.

that is some high fps peaks you got there, are you sure about those, they are almost 5 times higher than mine.
were you running a timedemo or were you staring at the floor with the sniper-rifle?
This sig is a shameless atempt to make my post look bigger.

Here's all I did (those scores were in OpenGL) I loaded it up, turned on Trilinear (Sharpen) and Cache Shadowmaps.

Then to get the benchmark I'd open up the console (~) and type /dem_bProfile=1 then I'd go to the demo option, select Yodeller and watch that demo for a while, then bring up the console again and type /ReportDemoProfile() (at least I think that was the command) then it brings up the stats which I posted here. So no, I wasn't staring at the floor
