  • Abit asus p4s533 onboard ide stuck in pio mode

    Under windows 98 I get dma. Under win2k I just get pio mode. Under a install off winxp I get dma5. I'm using the latest drivers. I've uninstalled and re-installed. So how do force the darn thing into dma mode.
    The settings are right in the bios so what gives??

    Win2K requires at least SP-2 to properly support anything past ATA66 and to report the mode the drive is using correctly.

    Check these two KB articles for more info;

    KB Q260233

    KB Q269555

    Uppance: even though the drives are using UDMA Win2K may still report them as being in PIO mode.

      Under sp3 and it's definatley pio mode cos it crawls. Me thinks it's time for a clean install.
      Next question XP and Me dual boot system or just XP.

      Advantage with one system that it's a lot less hassle and ME is going to be defunct anyway. Disadvantage if XP falls over you've got nothing else too use in the meantime.

          Yes the ones on the CD are a later version than the ones on Asus website and SIS website.

            Well I bottled out of a single operating system so I upgraded win98 to me and this went smoothly. 98 had deceased working.
            Win2k wouldn't upgrade due to the radeon card causing the upgrade to fall over. So I plonked a clean version of XP back on.
            Xp is working happily all though Creatives latest drivers caused it to blue screen and sulk a little until I ran the program again.
