    Anyone know anything about this? Or the corresponding MJPEG2000? Are there any working codecs available for it? I've heard that Quicktime for Mac (not for Win) is implementing it.

    From what I understand, this gives much more resolution per unit of file size, all other things being equal, compared with the traditional JPEG/MJPEG. The extension is .jp2 for the still version.

    It's formally ISO15444.

    JPEG2000 is a wavelet based compression standard vs. JPEG's discrete cosine transform (DCT) based compression. It can compress to much higher ratios than DCT while maintaining quality. The typical still JPEG2000 can have a ratio of 100-150:1.

    Yes, MotionJPEG2000's are out there.
