  • ECS K7S5A and G400

    Hi all,

I know this problem was posted before under

but there wasn't a real solution or success-message.

Well, i have the same problem:

Elitegroup K7S5A Mainboard with Athlon XP1600
    G400 32MB DH
    Noiseblocker 300W Power
    GlobalWinTak58 Cooler (very silent...great deal!!)

The PC wont boot. No Post. No beep. CPU Cooler and Power-Supply
    are running.
I have not yet updated the Mainboard Bios nor the G400 Firmware.

Does anyone, who expirenced the same problem have a solution?

Please excuse my pretty bad english.

    Nice Weekend

Do you run the FSB at 100 MHz and the RAM at 133? If so, try pushing reset after powering up. If it won't boot then, reset. And so on

Or just let FSB and RAM run in synch

I'm running FSB and RAM out of sync and I'm not having problems.

Got a K7S5A running right next to me with a Marvel G400-TV in it using Win2K. NO problems at all.

CHHAS, I think it may be different with different hardware revisions (I know there are quite a few for this board), and/or change with BIOS updates.

Maybe it's a difference if you use mem slot 0 or 1 (read something to that effect on ECSs bios page, I think), and/or the type and brand of RAM used. I use Infineon PC266 CL2 RAM, which is not on the compatibility list for this board, and it is (or maybe way with older revisions/BIOSes) quite picky.

that won't help you: but i run my g400 with all possible and impossible FSB settings and no problem.

As you can see from your own post above I had this problem also, with a G400 Marvel TV. Not only on the ECS K7S5A but also with an Asus A7V333.

The end solution was a replacement from Matrox, which cured it all up. You can see this thread in Matrox support at the following.

No probs here with a G450 on a K7S5A I built for a friend. Recently, he decided to upgrade to an Asus A7S333, so I got his old board....

Hi and thanks a lot for helping me.
                  I finally solved the problem.
After using the recover utillity the system was able to boot without
                  any problems.

                  thanks again
