    Hi,

These are my conclusions for the UMSP 6.5 + Power patch to 6.51a:

    On Windows 98SE:
The original patch did NOT overwrite the file dvsf.ax, but I had no problems.
The revised patch DID overwrite the file dvsf.ax to the more recent dated one.

    On Windows 2000:
The original patch DID overwrite the file dvsf.ax to the more recent dated one.

      Doc

For the first time since my problem, I opened my video computer and installed the new patch. I did the following trial:
      1. Captured a couple of minutes of DV from the Sony DVCAM deck via MSP Vcapture
      2. Noted the AVI file played back correctly on the computer in both Vcapture and WMP
      3. Exported the AVI file to VHS and TV via the Canopus ADVC-100
      4. Did minor edit to AVI file in MSP Veditor
      5. Created a DVD-PAL-compliant MPEG-2 file from the edited AVI file in Veditor
      6. Checked the MPG file played OK in both Veditor and WMP
      7. Recorded a DVCAM tape from the AVI file
      8. checked that this recording played back OK.

It was all systems go first time (which it certainly wasn't under W2k with the first patch).

I think the Ulead response to the original bug was excellent, knowing how difficult it is to sort this kind of thing out (as an ex-programmer and a beta tester of probably even more difficult CAD software). Please tell them that.

      Best regards,
      Brian (the devil incarnate)

Just a side note: I was unable to get MSP 6.5 to run after patching up. Got an error in "veditor". I removed the patch and then it ran ok again. I copied the older version of veditor into MSP after patching and now it runs, but I am not sure about the functionality of everything - appears ok so far.

P.S. The patch runs fine on my Win98SE System and my WinME Laptop.

Forgot to ask...is this patch "different" than the one on Ulead's site?

            thanks,

Yes, it's different. They are going to run it through SQA over the next week or so, perhaps making another change or two, then update the one on the website. I'll post when they do.
