  • What I can't wait for....

Call me a freak but I am really looking forward to having a system that has:

    -AMD Hammer
    -Serial ATA RAID
    -DDRII
-Legacy Free Mobo(though I actually need one serial, hmmm)
Colors! Lots of colors to choose from! I want everything to have multiple colors, motherboards, video cards, heatsinks, etc...
-A new video card that runs tomorrow's games with cinematic support. I am probably buying the 9700 when it comes out.

These are the things that I require to make me happy Personally, the PC worls ahs been kind of boring lately if you ask me. Games aren't really revolutionary. Even UT2k3 isn't revolutionary. Although Doom will be revolutionary in terms of graphics, it's not my kind of game. I'll buy it just for the "oooh" factor but that's it. I'm really lookinf forward to tomorrow's simulation games, multi-monitor games, and in-depth terrain style games with massive maps to run around on. I haven't even touched on HD support, software that allows you to get and decoded satellite instead of crappy cable, etc... One can dream....

Dave, you should pick up one of the OTA HDTV PCI cards (there's a TLA soup for you ) to drive your HDTV. There's quite of bit of HD content available in the Bay Area and all you need is a half-way decent aerial. Check out the HiPix card.

      Hey Xortam,

I already have OTA setup I also have 3 24 hour HD channels fed into my house via DirecTV(HBO, SHOWTIME, and HDNET). I check out AVS forums as do you, so I am aware of the HiPix card. I really have no use for it though as I am not really into recording too much. What I really want is HDTV out so I can play games on my HDTV
BTW, in order for me to get HD OTA in my area I have to run a YAGI antenna with a pre-amp pusing out 25db. even then I have dropouts. I need to do some fine tuning to get it to quit dropping out or wait for nest gen HD set top boxes to handle multipath better. I am getting all of my channels form Sutro Tower.

So you're in one of those troublesome spots. I just have an ordinary size YAGI and that was fine for me. My buddy brought over his system w/ the HiPix and we checked out my reception ... great signal. These are coming from Sutro to the South Bay. I have an old analog BUD and I'm debating which way to go for digital. I still haven't plunged into HDTV after almost three years from my planned launch. My buddy has the HiPix as well as an HDTV BUD and watches a lot of his TV via the HiPix.

P.S. Oh yeah, HDNET is supposed to be coming to BUD soon. My annual subscription to BUD expires tomorrow and I'm debating what to do since I'm determined to finally buy that HDTV this year. Have you been following the DVB PCI card thread? I was debating getting a DVB stand-alone receiver for BUD for a while but I started receiving UPN feeds in the clear again (the main reason for me to pick up a DVB).

Well, if a legacy free board is what you are after, the AT7 is a very nice mobo, and since it is a part of a series(they created one for intel as well) I am sure that they will release another version of it when the hammer processors come out, hopefully with serial ata onboard with standard ide controllers as well. Although my AT7 comes with onboard raid, I am wondering if SATA raid will be developed by the time the hammer is out.

Take some acid. Much cheaper. Everything will be different colors then.

              Sorry. Had to do it

I agree, though I think looking at a Motherboard while tripping would be a bad idea, perhaps you'd start to see little civilizations growing on it, busying themselves with moving the packets of information from your CPU to your Graphics card and sound card. Oops ,there's one driving a car along the 'circuit' look at him crash, oops, big pile-up on IC 28351B. Better call in life-light.
