  • Mozilla Tabbed Browsing Question

    hi,
    i use mozilla 1.0 under win2k,
the default operation of it when clicking a link is opening a new browser window. how can i setup mozilla in a way that he would automatically open clicked-links as a tab (and not like the only possible version i saw as "middle button click" (the middle button has another custom setup i need for another application)

    greets

i don't know if you can do this.

I right click and select "open in new tab", which i find convienient. in 1.1, it's the second option, which i don't like because "open in new window" is the first, and sometimes i actually lose links because they open in a new window instead of a new tab.

    bub

yes, but many buttons in java etc that also open default new windows cant get overrided by that. - so i would like a general behavior for the tabs

thanks for your sugestion though !

You can also use ctrl + click to open tabs instead of windows.
Preferences -> Navigator -> Tabbed browsing -> Middle-click or Control-click of links in a web page.

i know, but thats also not really conveniant. i want to cancel the default behavior. would have no problem to make the actual behavior ctrl-clicked. but for perma clicks that would need both hands always

Just download the source code and change the behaviour yourself

I pretty sure it can't be done in the current version. I'd really love to have this option too.

Seems the best option now is the ctrl + click.
If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

yes changing the code would be an option. but its not just downloading the code and run it through vc 6 (i use 5) but also installing tons of add ons, which simply isnt in any relation anymore to just changing something.

you can change the javascript behaviours, which can open popups OnLoad and OnClose, but you can also disable the HTML target="_blank" which I think is what you are most likely talking about. See my attatched screenshot from Mozilla 1.1a

try looking at the UserChrome.css file to alter look and feel as well as tactile stuff - there are guides on the web (mozilla site) for altering key/mouse behaviour - related to CSS and unix roots

I have seen a reference somewhere for changing the default action from new-window to new-tab. I just can't remember where... might have been MozillaZine.
PS. Why is the reply-box in Mozilla so f-cking thin?

Go to Edit->Preferences-> Navigator-> Tabbed Browsing. Then put a check in "Middle-click or control-click of links in a web page" under Open tabs instead of new windows. Now just use your middle mouse button to open up in tabs. VERY convenient. Got to love Mozilla. (Almost said Galeon 'cause that's what I always use in linux, but since Parhelia drivers aren't out for linux yet, I'm stuck in the crappy OS which means I use Mozilla (god IE sucks!))

leech, you missed the part where he said he is using the middle moose button for something else.

You could post this as a enhancement bug on bugzilla, or you can try posting a message on mozillazine forums and see if anyone has a quick fix.
