  • Question for the Windows2000 experts - NLB

I fancied playing with dual load-balanced NICs in my 2000 box (for no reason other than out of interest), but everything I've read refers to dual NICs as being available in Windows 2000 Advanced Server or Datacenter Server

Does anyone know if it can be done under 2000 Pro?

I was pretty sure that the differences between 2000 Pro and 2000 Advanced Server were largely cosmetic (or was that NT4/NT4 Server?), and I've found a registry hack
that refers to NT/2000/XP for NIC load balancing.
    Athlon XP-64/3200, 1gb PC3200, 512mb Radeon X1950Pro AGP, Dell 2005fwp, Logitech G5, IBM model M.

It's not hard to do in Win2K Pro.

What kind of NICs are you going to use?

There are some 3rd. Party apps (Adaptec's DuraLAN - For Adaptec NICs only, and Intel's Teaming Drivers - For Intel NICs only, and then there is IPMetric's NIC Express for everything else.)

It works very well, but it is wildly overkill. I setup Nostromo as my AIO Home Server. I rarely go above 55% even when streaming MPEGs to multiple machines.
