  • W2K SP3 - what up?

I guess what with XP SP1 taking up all of Big Brothers time and W2K being redied for the coffin , W2K SP3 finalization must have grinded to a halt.

    Anybody know what up?

Don't know. What's in SP3 beside bug fixes (not so interested to look it up)?

yeah win2k is making XP look bad, first the USB 2.0 was ready and stable for win2k, but they have pulled and won't release.

and now sp3, mind you it runs pretty goo on SP2 anyway

I am interested to see how Microsoft is going to try and force their ideas about DRM (recent WMP security updates etc) onto arguably the best Microsoft OS currently.

PS - also running very happily on SP2 with no "affecting me" bugs visible.

Win2k SP-3 is due to be released at the same time as XP SP-1. August 14th I think.

Apparently it's the installer thats fubar and they're waiting too see if it screws up the beta testers machine before deciding whether tp put the old installer back in.
They've also found some new bugs as well. Heh heh.
Perhaps they just don't want win2k stopping more sales of XP.

It will eventually.. and as long as the masses are computer dummies, they will continue to support microsoft like willing little sheep, whose every move is now monitored by big brother.

security holes there might be there sooner than I'll agree to a EULA
like that. Same with RealOne; I'm staying at v8, I don't care what Real

I just applied the WMP 7 "Q320920: Security Update" patch a couple hours ago. I didn't see any negative affects in the security bulletin. The update does address some nasty vulnerabilities and now allows script disabling. How has this patch negatively affected me?

AFA SP3, any other new features snuck into this SP besides USB 2.0?

The EULA for that patch authorizes MS to install any software on your machine as they wish without your consent, including, but not limited to, DRM software.

I read about a few days ago on winoscentral.

I recall that discussion but I didn't connect it with this patch. I just checked the local EULA dated 21-APR-01 and it did contain the offending text. This may be an old agreement or perhaps this is indeed new text and the install didn't change the modified date. The text:
                              * Digital Rights Management (Security). You agree that in order to protect the integrity of content and software protected by digital rights management ("Secure Content"), Microsoft may provide security related updates to the OS Components that will be automatically downloaded onto your computer. These security related updates may disable your ability to copy and/or play Secure Content and use other software on your computer. If we provide such a security update, we will use reasonable efforts to post notices on a web site explaining the update.
I can always reinstall the OS and not include the offending patches if this becomes a problem.
