In this case the best team lost. The spanish tried very hard to throw it away.

:(

Now I know how the English felt at the last World cup they qualified for!

Ah well.... with that team, we could have given anyone a run for their money!

'twas a shame (I'm half irish). They played very well, and even though the best team on paper won, the best team on the field lost :(

But still, in a world cup game, you just can't miss penalties!!

The big question is, how many Irishmen will be screaming "If we'd have had Roy Keane this wouldnt have happened!" and demanding Mick McCarthy's head on a spike?

not me.....

I think it was the best thing that could have happend to them....

It made a team, built on each other, rather than a team built around one player.

most of them are still young, they have another world cup in them.... (well staunton doesnt, but he has had a good run!)

undefeated in open play.... two goals in the 89th+ minute.... I will remember this world cup campaign....

I agree with you RedRed,
It's about time, a team comes first before the player.
But man are these games great to watch, and the best games are yet to be played. I hope.

I would have liked to have seen Roy Keane's face if Ireland had gone all the way.

In the case of Belgium against Brazil, again the best team lost...:(
