  • If You've Tested the DirectX 9.0 beta...

...please look in your Windows System 32 folder and find the qdv.dll. (Microsoft DV codec)

What version number do you observe?

    Thanks,

    Jerry Jones

      Thanks.

The version I observe with the latest version of DirectX 8.0 is 6.03.01.0881.

      I'm using Windows 2000.

So - unless the version number varies by OS - it would seem there is - indeed - a newer QDV.DLL version in DirectX 9.0.

      Thanks again.

      That's very interesting.

By the way, Indiana, were you the one who posted earlier?

Have you done any quality comparisons with this Microsoft DV codec filter in DirectX 9.0?

        Thanks again,

        Jerry Jones

No. I only do analog captures using my Hauppauge, no DV (yet).
But since I've installed the DX9 Beta I could look up the version number nevertheless. BTW, I'm also using Win2k here, so it's in fact a newer version.
If this new version is better, you have to test yourselves... (but at least I had no adverse effects due to the DX9 Beta up to now, things (games) even seem a bit smoother, if anything different at all).

The DirectX v. 8.1 DV codec is 6.3.1.881, the same as your v. 8.0, Jerry.

              6.5.1.80

It seems to have an improved dv quality. At this moment i tested only playback, and yes, it seems to work better.

Will this codec work with earlier DXs? If so, then MS should perhaps offer it stand-alone???

If it's only the above mentioned dll, then I can send it to you if you want.
