  • Problem Exporting to Camcorder

I'm new to video editing and have recently gotten a Pyro 1394 board. It came with Ulead VideoStudio so that's what I'm using so far. I haven't loaded MS6.0 VE yet -- should I?

I've been able to capture and render my avi clips ok, but I'm having a problem when I export back to the camcorder. It will record fine for a brief time (anywhere from 30 to 90 seconds), but then the picture freezes and the audio sounds like feedback for about 5 seconds, and then starts recording again. This happens randomly so I don't believe the avi file is the problem -- it plays back on my computer OK. Could it be a driver issue?? I remember some confusion when I loaded the software (Microsoft vs TI) I'm not sure which to use - I think I chose the Microsoft driver.

System: PIII 450; 32MB G400; 128 RAM; Abit BE6 mobo; Quantum 13GB for OS; Quantum 20GB (7200rpm) for video; UDMA66 seems to be functioning properly. Windows 98 SE. Pyro 1394 board; Sony TRV315 NTSC camcorder.

Surely someone here must have some advise....

I called Ulead tech support -- they said it sounded like a hardware problem with the Pyro board.

I called ADS tech support -- they said it sounded like a software problem.

There is no DMA box under either of my Quantum drives. I understand (possibly incorrectly) that this is normal for UDMA66 Quantum drives. I had this export problem when I only had one drive installed, and now still have it even after installing the second drive and dedicating the video data to that new drive.

I've also experienced this problem even after closing everything in my task manager except Explorer and Systray.

Thanks for the links -- I'll continue to search there for an answer as well.
