Mark B. has a hot one for ya. Yea, I know "you'll never need it" but just when you think you don't, trust me, you will.

One of the most heart-thumping computer problems you can encounter is a server that won't boot due to a blue screen.

The good news is that if your computer's blue screen is caused by an operating system problem, an emergency repair will almost always resolve the problem. Here's how to perform an emergency repair.

It's great when it works but quite a lot of times it doesn't.

Change that to 'it rarely works - it just makes inexperienced server admins feel safer'.

Well I was going to say rarely but then I'd get a volley of friendly abuse from people who managed to get it done.

Once for me, back in NT4 pre-SP3 days. Tried it about 30 times since - Not even slightly useful.

I think it falls into the more damaging area - I have had success with selecting intall, then when it finds the existing install and it asks if I would like to repair that installation I choose yes.
Sadly it means your re-installing the SP's tho

This probably because it's not a system file thats screwed up but a file installed by a program that gets loaded via the registry during startup. Last know config has saved the screwed up install so your stuffed.
