  • Barbie's creator has died.

Ruth Handler, who created Barbie, the world's most popular doll, has died. She was 85.

    And Barbie herself is 42.

I'm with Gurm on this one.

Just imagine how many generations of frustrated girls and women this doll gave us...

Hey, I'm the last "politically correct" person on the face of the planet, but I'm a parent now, and I have to look at what toys and tv shows teach my kid.

No kidding. If Barbie were real she'd need gyroscopic stabilization to stand upright

All those little girls who grew up anorexic because they couldn't look like Barbie, and there are a lot of 'em, are not the best legacy to leave the world with IMHO.

Besides, and I think I'm not alone in this, I like my gals a bit softer/rounder looking. You know...like real-world women and not the androids now passing for "models".

              Wait, those "models" are WOMEN?

              Good GOD.

Y'know what's sad? That formerly attractive girls now look disgusting. When I was a teenager I had MANY a dirty fantasy about Courtney Cox (Family Ties), but now she's like 75 pounds. If you can see all the bones, I'm not interested. URK!

Am I the only one that thought Renee Zelweiger looked BETTER in Brigitte Jones'es Diary than afterwards when she lost all the weight?

You guys are right. Now she looks like a 13 year old boy in drag.

I actually think most guys prefer their women much "curvier" than the gals think we do. I KNOW it's that way in my case.

These gals who are average height and size 2's are just sickening. Best example I can think of: Callista Flockhart.

Maybe now that her show's going off the air she'll have time to eat a freaking meal or three.

Jeeze did this thread get out of hand. Blaming a Barbie doll for all the anorexic women in the world is like blaming GI Joe for all the steroid pumped up body builders in the world.

Hell why don't we just blame the media for all the women who had breast implants for making it look like the only way a woman can be happy and have the good things in life is if she has really big boobs.

I bet that some of the people who blame Barbie for all the anorexia would curse and criticize the idea that a movie like Natural Born Killers could inspire murder.

                        KvH,

Barbie is considered some kind of an ideal while Natural born killers isn't.
Besides, people give barbie to their 4 year old kids, they get Natural born killers video/dvd much later in life.
