  • Matrox Gxxx cards vs VIA Twister-K!

    Hi guys!
I recently bought a Compaq Presario 716EA notebook with VIA Twister-k as a graphic section! Need info on that "Twister"!
I never heard the existence of such graphic chip and i would to know if it's faster (or slower) than Matrox's cards (mainly than G400MAX)!

    Thx to all!

Forget that, save your money and get a Parhelia ASAA (As Soon As Available )

More seriously, I haven't even heard about that Via chip, sorry. Anyway I doubt it is very powerfull, and the visual quality is probably awfull....

Video quality seems good on a 14.1" LCD TFT (very sharp colors for a LCD) screen but i think 3d performances are really low (i can t do any benchmark now)! Not enough 3d power for that new ATHLON 4 mobile 1.2ghz!
I ll buy a Parhelia when it will be avaiable for my home system but it s a big shame Matrox doesn t offer any graphic solution for th mobile market!

        This should answer your question.

London, England, May 15th, 2001 - S3 Graphics, Inc. and VIA Technologies, Inc. today jointly launched the VIA ProSavage TM KN133TM. Known informally as 'Twister K', the VIA ProSavage TM KN133TM is the world's first fully integrated SMA (shared memory architecture) chipset developed specifically for AMD's new mobile AMD AthlonTM 4 and AMD DuronTM processors.
So it's basically an S3 Savage based graphics core to isn't going to give you amazing 3D performance

But, in your opinion, is it faster or slower than G400MAX?

              Drivers

If your current drivers work, you might just want to consider leaving them alone.

However, if you feel compelled to update - the Best savage driver, hands down - is here (go for JGC's latest Unified):

otherwise log into the S3 driver site:
