  • 2 x GeForce4 Ti = ???

    Read on Hardware.fr:

    D’ici un mois, une puce offrant sur le papier des spécifications deux fois supérieures à celles des GeForce4 Ti 4400/4600 devrait être annoncée. 3D Labs Permedia4, ATI R300, BitBoyz Glaze3D, Matrox Parhelia, NVIDIA NV30, Videologic Kyro III ? Malheureusement nous ne pourrons pas vous donner la réponse avant la mi-mai. En tout cas une chose est sûre, vous allez êtres surpris ...

    Within a month a new chip should be announced. Its specs shows that it should be twice as powerfull as a GF4 Ti 4400/4600. 3D Labs Permedia4, Ati R300, BitBoyz Glaze3D, Matrox Parhelia, NVIDIA NV30, Videologic Kyro III ? Unfortunately we won't be allowed/able to give you the answer before mid-may. One thing is sure, you are going to be suprised ...

    This time it is not an April joke, This guy is usually very well informed. Let's hope it will be Parhelia...
    System : ASUS A8N SLI premium, Athlon 64X2 3800+, 2Gb, T7K500 320Gb SATAII, T7K250 250Gb SATAII, T7K250 250Gb ATA133, Nec ND-3520, Plextor PX130A, SB Audigy 2, Sapphire Radeon X800 GTO, 24" Dell 2407WFP.

    Of those mentioned I think 3DLabs, Parhelia and Kyro3 are closest to truth. I don't think 3DLabs or ATI will come out just yet, we know that Parhelia is close, and although PowerVR did state that Kyro3 would currently be a high-end part I have trouble believing that it would be 2 times as fast as the Ti4600 (at least by the specs). Of course, if it REALLY is a surprise it won't even be on that list... S3?

    Well, at least the "we won't be allowed/able to give you the answer" part sounds like Matrox

                Yes it was. STMicroelectronics is removing itself from the graphics chip market and is currently willing to sell the branch that produced the Kyro and Kyro II chips.
                Someday, we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

                        Hey, I'm pretty happy that Matrox' going to announce Parhelia mid-May, because I wasn't expecting anythign before June. I just hope that they announce the boards (at least a few) at the same time as the chip itself…
                        What was necessary was done yesterday;
                        We're currently working on the impossible;
                        For miracles, we ask for a 24 hours notice ...
