Hi folks, new member here. Been using Matrox cards since 1994, patiently waiting on the new card.
Thought I'd register to post a little titbit I saw on Anandtech (http://anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1608&p=17)

Check out the last line - "With DirectX 9 on the horizon the major hardware firms are diligently at work on their next-generation GPUs, from R300 to NV30 to something else being shown now behind closed doors - as usual, the graphics market always keeps us busy. Stay tuned."

Got me all excited.

it could be..:D

i have a hunch, that the next couple of days will be exciting for us, murcers. :D :D

eYup.

Typically the paper press guys get info first because of their long lead time to publication (4-8 weeks), so leaks will likely come from those briefings. Expect a flood of them :D

it'll be interesting to see what happens if a capable third manufacturer returns to the scene.

Anand also said that ^^^. If that isnt a hint, I don't know what is.

also notice capable. if you are not excited i cannot help you :)

Damn, just read that.

Sounds good doesnt it.

Anyway, what is there to show?

We have Matrox, 3dLabs, PowerVR, S3(SonicBlue), or Trident.

When Anand says capable , that rules out S3 and (possibly) Trident(todays press release is interesting though).

http://www.tridentmicro.com/press/2002/pr020415.html

We know 3dLabs has something hot comming, but is it taped out yet?

We know PowerVR has something, but can they get it to market?

We also know Matrox has something, and that it is running (DM demo).

The best bet is Matrox.

I would say another week or two before we know for sure.

Ali.

i think S3 can be ruled out. trident did announce a new chip today, however it is only for laptops. so that rules out trident. maybe SIS? capable? :D so here goes our third hero.
IT MUST BE MATROX! or better

IT IS MATROX :)

Well I guess everyone here reads the Matrox forum, but for those who don't, here's a nice quote from Haig:

gs2k1: I heard you presented the card to the press (?), but that they are all under NDA until somewhere in may?
I also heard that they where very impressed!
if this is true, did they where very impressed?

Haig: Can't comment but if it's anything like the past, you folks should start seeing more leaks coming out from various sites.

http://forum.matrox.com/mgaforum/Forum8/HTML/001077.html

How much more evidence do the doubters need :p

hmm so now the question is who will leak sth. first? or who will have the first article with benchmarks etc.?

i think it might be anandtech. i remember they had the first 8500 article, i think even a day earlier than tom. so tomshardware is another good guess. however it will probably be Ant :) he better starts saving some money than or he won't be able to pay the bandwith when everyone on the planet links to him.

Just read on Anandtech that Anand is going on a Special Trip (http://www.anandtech.com/news/shownews.html?i=3410&t=sn) :D

I thought Matrox was in Vancouver area, not San Fran, but hey, maybe they have offices there...

Today I'll be hopping on a plane to head off to San Francisco to meet with a company we haven't heard much from in a while.

And

If it turns out to be extremely impressive I'll do something special with my next post to let you know ;)

Please be Parahelia!!! :bunny: :bunny: :bunny:

hmmm mighty suspicious i say!

matrox has no offices in san francisco, not even close to SF. their only office in north america (http://bizapps.matrox.com/cv_online/en/menu.asp) is in florida, not really the same area :D

but then all other facts and rumours scream: IT IT PARHELIA !!
woohoo :)

anand says he will be back in ~24 hours, i guess we will have to wait. we're almost there.

If they have no offices in san francisco, they still can present it there...

I really really really hope that there will be alot of leaking from a diversity of sites in the next month :)

I just hope this time the box doesn't have to sit behind the shrubbery for 3 days like the RT-2000 did

Hmmmm...what else is in the SF area...hmmmm...maybe Silicon Valley? Lots of large tier 1 OEM offices? SF would be a prime place to show off new toys.

This will not be the first time that matrox presents a product in San Francisco, check out the press releases at www.matrox.com for the last 2 years:)

Quick examples:
1.
San Francisco, CA, (April 3, 2000) Daikin U.S. Comtec Laboratories and Matrox Video Products Group announced today the immediate availability of a new professional-level DVD authoring solution for Matrox DigiSuite DTV non-linear editing (NLE) customers at an affordable price.
2.
SAN FRANCISCO - January 9, 2001 - Matrox Video Products Group will demonstrate the new Matrox RTMac card here at Macworld Expo, Moscone Convention Center, in booth 3341. Matrox RTMac is the first PCI video card for realtime digital video (DV) editing on the Macintosh.

....just saw this over at Kyle's [H]ARD OCP (http://hardocp.com/index.html)

After being in San Francisco this week on a 36 hour quick turn around trip, we did find the excursion to be well worth our while. If this company, that we have not heard anything exciting from in a while, can "put their money where their mouth is" there are going to be quite a few folks out there in for a surprise.

:D here it comes...

hmm so from what i read just in another thread here they are showing it to the press (online + print) so they can get their articles ready for the great moment. so i guess we have at least 2 weeks until we see some public announcement. time for more specific speculation :)

Ant :) Can you answer one question (or hint in any direction) without saying too much: will we see one card or different flavours? like one card for the semi-professional who wants all the great features but is probably not so interested in raw speed, but is also a casual gamer, one card for the hardcore gamer and one card for the gfx professionals.

in a related question: do you like your coffee black, with sugar or with milk and sugar? or do you probably like all three? if not which do you prefer? :D

Thin and crispy, thick crust and deep dish Pizza's ;)

Well, since I don't have a lot of cash...
Thin and crispy for me please, but I do prefer those thick crust Pizzas.

NocturnDragon

Pizza is not that bad as a name! J/k!

Matrox Pizza :p

thop
19th April 2002, 10:49
i guess thin and crispy will be fine with me. but something else came to my mind.

if the thick crust pizza is basically a thin&crispy (opposing to the deep dish which is probably a totally different kind of pizza) can we not raise the temperature in the pizza oven a bit and make it more like a thick crust? i bet the thin&crispy will be quite over-yougetit.
