  • MS shows Displacement Mapping @ GDC - With MATROX !

Hey, what's this? Too bad I can't read Japanese

    And particularly the three MPEGs:

Edit: Also see the topic about this at Beyond3D: http://216.12.218.25/domain/www.beyo...opic.php?t=535

Edit: Seems I might have got a little carried away It's in software, they say...

      Just curious.
I take it that they are not showing it on a G550?

          doh two threads same thing...

          Been done translated....
Ummm long and short, the demo he saw - even behind closed doors was run in software emulation.

He asked Boyd why was matrox involved with the presentation and the respose was "Oh, they have just been doing some research in it, thats all" (nothing to see, move on, move on)

The reporter has a firm belief that the next core from Matrox will be more then the 'Frame buffer' the the G400/G550 cores are and he expects good things soonâ„¢ from matrox.

i'm not so sure the big thing was just the clouds there in the third vid.
It may also have been the fact that he moved a huge distance in the landscape without any jerking or tearing.
...and the shadows 'hug' the landscape rather than floating on top of it. I think it could be akin to having shadows on an EMBM surface.(?)
It all looked very fluid, and could promise an even greater offload of graphics data from the cpu than is already done!
It all adds to the realism of the images.

            But this is just speculation....

we won't be absolutely sure until Matrox gives us an official statement/demo of the new card.

if curiosity killed the cat, then what does impatience kill?

is this the matrox presentation of displacement mapping, or is it microsoft´s presantation of dx9?

anyway, just hearing "matrox" and "dx9" in the same sentence indicates that something good is comming.

those videos are truly impressive, especially the landscape one, i think the parhelia techdemo will be absolutely jawdropping.

i hope this mean that matrox might reveal something VERY soon(sooner than soonTM)

It was interesting to see Matrox's name on two of those mpgs.

the lizzard in those matrox mpgs looks EXACTLY like the iksar-race in everquest, just an observation.

doesn't the guy say in the third video:
"ay...and the displacement mapping...ay...with Matrox displacement mapping hardware"

                        Matrox Displacement mapping HARDWARE

just more fuel for the fire.

he also says "?sion pixel shader..."
but that doesn't mean anything to me.
