In other news: Members of the highly popular Matrox Users Resource Centre forum group spews a huge load all at once upon the release of Matrox's "G-I-blew-a-load" Graphics Card, and disrupted the ECO balance through out the world. Mass flooding occured in most countries but it was mostly flash flooding. All fo this caused by a video card.

I'm 100% sure Matrox is developing a new graphics core. They can't live off the G400/550 core forever.

I'm about 95% sure that Matrox will not announce a new core at a trade show in March. The same thing happened last year with the ill-fated G550. The forums were all a buzz with Soon ™ and vain hopes that an announcement would be made at GDC or CeBIT. In the end...we got the G550 in May/June.

I'm pretty sure the G400 wasn't announced at a trade show either. Don't know about the G200 or G100. I don't remember a single product announcement from Matrox at a trade show, but I could be wrong.

All I know about this rumored Parhelia thing is what I've read on the forums and what I've read between the lines. Only time will tell whether a Parhelia or a GeForce 4 will grace my system in summer/fall when the big upgrade hits.

Jammrock

TdB
6th March 2002, 10:21
i think we will hear something BEFORE the next tradeshow. :D

borat
6th March 2002, 11:38
well if the parhelia thing is real and ready matrox are not going to wait till summer to announce just because they dont want to announce at a trade sow. and if the parhelia is any good it reallly would make the nvidiots look lame at the trade show.

Jammrock
6th March 2002, 11:43
We'll see...I simply doubt that any announcements will be made at GDC or CeBIT. Assuming, of course, that Soon ™ means within 1-2 months. Knowing Matrox's track record, Soon ™ could be 3-6 months or longer.

Jammrock

borat

Tempest
6th March 2002, 13:00
Okay, I have something to confess.

I bought M Graphics some 18 months ago for a Geforce 256 SDR and two bottles of aspirin. Since then I and some friends of mine have run a fake website and forum, as well as released some randomly modified drivers to keep up the illusion. We also released some products that we found lying around the place... We couldn't quite figure them all out but we just threw old parts at them until they worked, or at least seemed to. I would have wanted to release another of them "Marvel" thingies too, but one of my buddies had already sold the tech to those ATI guys in exchange for that hilarious "head transfer" tech or whatever they called it.

The whole thing was pretty fun while it lasted, but we're getting kinda tired now, our money is running out and those "customer" people can get kinda annoying. So we figured that we'd better tell the truth before we do any real damage. Now that you know the truth - the show is over, nothing to see here, everybody just go home OK? And please don't be mad at us - you know, it's not a perfect world :p

Cheers,
-Tempest

No at GDC one of the Matrox crew is giving a talk on displacement mapping. Now at last years GDC there was a similar talk with a demo of displacemnet mapping running on a G550, very very slowly. Expect this year if you are attentding to see a demo running very, very fast on something or other.

And technically, it's T-minus 8 days until Matrox gives its two classes at GDC. If anything is going to be said at GDC about the Parhelia, it will probably be done then. I doubt we'll hear anything though. But who knows...maybe I'll be eating my words in 8 days.

You guys, this is getting closer then Soon(tm).

But, i doubt that our-next-gen-card-with-really-really-wopping-speed will be announced then. :(

Well, I have gotten my first job ever, so I've got money to burn... Plz Matrox, let me burn it on a new card from M.

You think it will be sold at shop.matrox.com? It sure is a long way for Matrox homeland to my retailers here in Sweden.

No at GDC one of the Matrox crew is giving a talk on displacement mapping. Now at last years GDC there was a similar talk with a demo of displacemnet mapping running on a G550, very very slowly. Expect this year if you are attentding to see a demo running very, very fast on something or other.

They overclocked a G550 ? :D
AARRRGGHHHH ! :D

Anybody knows how long before launch Nasa starts counting down to a launch ? The site http://163.205.10.51/shuttle/countdown/cdt/ makes me think they start counting down at T-100 days, perhaps this is also the countdown Haig is using ?

And what exactly is everyone getting excited over? A hardware demonstration behind closed doors ? As far back as I can rememeber , Matrox has never released a card in March (well I only go back to G100 days so their Millenium/Marvel series cards might have been released in March but somehow I doubt it.)

Jammrock
20th March 2002, 14:38
The biggest reason people are excited about GDC is Ant's little post.

Basically, last year Matrox showed of displacment mapping at GDC @ ~2 fps on an 'unnamed' piece of hardware, which later became the G550. This year, Matrox is putting on another GDC presentation about displacment mapping on the last day of GDC (Saturday). The rumor is that Matrox will show off displacment mapping on another 'unnamed' piece of hardware, but this time at high frame rates. The 'unnamed' hardware is rumored to be the famed Parhelia.

So...if this rumor turns out to be truth...then MURCers will finally have something to cheer about again! Today is Wednesday @ GDC and Matrox won't demo displacment mapping until Saturday. Until that time only a select few know whether it's true or not, but they are all under NDA, so they ain't talking.

Jammrock

Helevitia

We aren't getting excited over anything. There is nothing to get excited over yet. We are, however, having fun until we can get excited over something. so on with the countdown....to E3 :D

hmm, about a month and a half or so....

Dave

Helevitia
20th March 2002, 14:43
We can use #10 as the start of the countdown.

10. It should be announced within a month, maybe two.

If there is any accuracy to that, then we only have 2 weeks and 4 days for 1 month to pass since VigilAnt's post on March 7th. So on with the countdown again!

Only 18 days left! (gmt -8)

If we are going to be optimistic about this, then first we should count down to Saturday's GDC presentation. If that fails we count down to the 2 month deadline rumored by VigilAnt. If that fail we count down to E3. If that fails...uh...then we are all losers for still counting down...but it sure will make this thread really long!

It would mean New Yorkers working 4am-12noon GMT, rather than 9am-5pm EST, and Californians working 1am-9am GMT (instead of 9-5 PST).

I think this would cause less bother than having many timezones (even down to half-hour differences).
