  • Hercules & Tekram Firewire cards?

I can't find the 'usual' firewire controller cards here locally. Seems people either sell noname VIA based controllers, or the Tekram card, or the DV Action kit by Hercules.

I can't find which controller chips are used on these Hercules and Tekram cards. Does anyone know? Are they any good?

Dunno....maybe you could get 'em to open the box for inspection.

If I couldn't confirm either a TI or Agere chipset I'd pass as the alternative is a world of headaches.

Unfortunately, none in stock, special order. I agree on TI, I won't touch a VIA based card. But I heard there's also a difference in the TI chipsets - older ones being less compatible?

The Hercules card should be fine.

That kit usually comes bundled with VideoStudio by Ulead.

The Hercules 1394 card uses the Texas Instruments TSB41LV03 chipset, which is the same chipset the ADS Pyro uses.

As for the Tekram card, the PDF photo below reveals that card uses a VIA IEEE 1394 chipset and I would avoid it like the plague:
