And I'm as anti-Creative as you can get, at least as far as the SBL, Audigy and AudioPCI based products go

Creative is about to launch their new drivers. Just a few of the pre-release notes are here:

        --Added 4 CD install package
        - Occupies 3.2G of HD space
        - Requires that all SW is installed in order to adjust volume control on taskbar.
        - Installs into the MBR so that any "accidental" removal or uninstall renders the HD useless even after formatting.
        - 18 new taskbars, 15 splash screens and 5,000 effects that automatically launch at startup--includes popular capture effects as "crackling audio" during capture or the ever popular "Japanese overdub movie maker effect"--All in realtime!
***Note: Requires dual processor support and atleast 1.5G DDR Ram***

--Increased PCI bus usage by 3%-
        - Windows notification "tick sound" now causes the video to flicker on your monitor--alerting you to important messages.
        - Attempting to play a wave file and the computer automatically reboots to save energy and ensure copyright protection.
*** Note: Some users will experience problems with PCI devices such as Network cards, SCSI/Ultra ATA Controller cards or Serial ports or other hi-bandwidth devices such as USB mice, printers or monitors***

And the best part is that Microsoft Certified these drivers!!

You know that I am just jealous that I don't have a Santa Cruz yet! One of these days I'll get around to ordering one and can be cool.

Well, the new drivers dox said they reduced CPU utilization. They do....

                  MP3: Santana's "Smooth" Joint Stereo 16 bit 44.1khz @192 kbps

                  Previous WDM drivers: 7.6%
                  Updated WDM drivers: 3.9%

WAV: Santana's "Smooth" PCM Stereo 16 bit 44.1khz @176 kbps

                  Previous WDM drivers: 1.9%
                  Updated WDM drivers: 1.2%

The WAV is the MP3 decoded to PCM. Win2K's performance monitor got the numbers. WMP 7.1 did the playback.

With all of the benefits of this card, I'd get it just for the extra port. Really avoids using a splitter.

                      Yup, and that VersaJack can be programmed in the TB mixer to be;

                      Analog out
                      Analog in
                      Digital out

With it set as an audio output that makes 3.

                      Nice.

That's impossible. Creative drivers have always crashed in dual configs!
