Got this off another DG that I read...
With the hightened alert that the US law enforcement personnel are on, some catagories of crimes have seen a recent increase. Thanks to improved technology: local, state and federal agencies have been able to share information to an unprecidented degree. This has lead to an astounding discovery: millions of break ins occured on Christmass eve or early Christmass morning. The only common thread seems to be that the targeted houses were those of Christians.
The break ins occured while everyone in the house was asleep, but many reported being awakened by "a clutter up on the roof" This report seems to indicate that that either the same individual perpetraited all the violations or, as is suggested by the number of incidents occuring in a diverse number of locations, that they are a number of individuals working as part of a conspiracy.
The latter possibility is much more likely as it would be physically impossible for one individual to break into houses in 50 differant state in the same night. This has lead the FBI to declare this group to be "the largest terrorist group currently known to be operating." A spokesperson for the agency indicated that thousands of agents were immediately asigned to the case as soon as the magnitude of the problem became clear.
"The magnitude of the terrorist act that they pulled off indicates a very well funded orginization. They aparantly had vehicles able to vertically lift off of a roof without making much noise. The US military has spent millions on helicopters with this capability, but does not have sufficiant numbers to have hit that many houses in one night."
Houses broken into reported nothing missing except for food items. The similarity of the food items missing is, in the words of one CIA official: "Uncannaly consistant!" The missing food items primaraly consist of cookies, carrots and a few other vegtables and sweets. Aperantly the perpatraitors got thirsty from eating all that food as most houses also reported that milk was missing and an empty glass was left with a milk residue in it. Officials are currently running fingerprinting examinations on numerous samples, but aparently have low hopes of turning up anything.
"These guys knew what they were doing, they had apparently watched the houses that were hit for some time and knew when the occupants were asleep! We also know they were wearing gloves. Our only hope for fingerprints is if some of them took their gloves off, which we would guess they were wearing considering the nighttime temperatures."
In spite of the care taken, a number of the suspects were spotted when the roof landings awoke the occupants of the houses. This reveiled even more common threads as the descriptions in every state were remarkably consistant. In all cases the intruders were decribed as heavyset older gentlemen wearing red pants and a red coat lined with white fur. Also, a broad black belt with a large buckle was mentioned in many cases. The suspects also are described as having a long white beard.
"We may be dealing with a religous organization, long beards is sometimes seen in these groups of religous extreamists."
In virtually every case the intruders left behind packages with names of those in the house wrapped in atractively colorful paper.
"Our first thought was that these were bombs, but after opening thousands of them with our explosives units, we have not seen any indications of any explosives or other devices. We have also ruled out a chemical threat, but it is still too soon to say wether or not a biological agent is present."
FBI and CIA agents are working closely with state and local crime forces on this case and a spokesperson said: "Given the wealth of physical evidence and the shear size of the group we expect to break this case eventually, but it's going to take alot of man hours to process the evidence. The President is being asked to aprove an emergency spending bill that will allow a great deal of overtime that could drastically reduce the number of days until we catch them."
Officials indicate that the group apears to be based to the North, althought North of where was not specified, it is possibly outside of the US. There are a number of details that are being kept Top Secret to protect the case, but a spokesperson said "People are afraid, we need to keep them informed to help quiet those fears. We're going to let them know as much as possible as quickly as possible."
