  • Dazzle DVC II and K7 chipsets

    Hiya,
i just picked up a Dazzle Digital Video Creator II, when I stick the card in and try booting, the system just sits there looking at me/ and me at it :/

there website says certain K7 chipsets are incompatible with it, has anyone found a work-around or possibly a better capture solution?
    TIA
    jim

I tried out a Dazzle DVC (don't remember if it was I or II) for a brief time about 1 1/2 years ago. I put it into a system very similar to your "System 2"... It worked, but not with their software -- had to use the Ulead software. Their tech support wasn't much help either, so I gave trying to use the Dazzle software.

The analog transfer quality was not acceptable to me, so I returned it and got a ADS Pyro DVI card instead (also half the price). That works fine, but you need the DVI interface on your camcorder -- does not have analog capture ports that Dazzle used.

My Sony 330 does have the firewire port on it so that might be a good way to go

I was hoping to have the ability to do vhs to vcd as well, maybe a second card for that is in order

You might get just as good (maybe better) quality copying your VHS to your Sony, then capture from your camcorder using the Firewire.

As I remember, there was quite a noticable quality drop when capturing with the Dazzle. This was an external unit and I think I used the S-video connection. On the other hand, the firewire DVI capture is a perfect (or darn near) copy from the camcorder to computer.

You might try to get some input from the folks in the Desktop Video forum.

I considered that as the quality of the original vhs tapes is not that great to start with, I've returned the Dazzle and I'll do some shopping for a good firewire card/software bundle
          thanks beez,
