  • Tip for Linksys Cable/DSL router users moving to Comcast

    Lots of those around these days, what with the @Home fiasco and so many Mediaone/Roadrunner users transferred to Comcast......

    Now for the meat;

    BEFORE you insert the CD to install your Comcast support software and register you must first enter the Linksys Cable/DSL routers administration setup page and define "comcast.net" as the Host.

    If you don't there will be installation problems plus it'll see the host server, get its new DHCP settings but not be able to even ping the internet.

    No other changes seem to be necessary, at least for MediaOne/RoadRunner users.

    Now....if only they can get the connection problems fixed (due mostly to transferring everyone to their new backbone).

        Yup...the Comcast software monitors keystrokes and send's 'em somewhere. Grrr....

        Not to mention that your email addy consists of your name + your account number + your state. Great security Comcast!!

            More tips:

            check for installer updates. The early CD installers were quite buggy, not that the newer ones are a lot better but ... at any rate there have been some updated versions posted here for both PC and Macintosh;

            The Xfinity Discovery Hub is your resource for Xfinity product news, technology education, and more. Learn about TV, internet, home security, and more.

            One sign of an old version: it won't work in WinXP.

            You can also check here for articles (Detroit Free Press) covering the problems Michigan users have run into;

              I just made my initial transition to Comcast this morning.

              I had to make some adjustments to my network card.

              In TCP/IP properties: Set to obtain an IP address automatically.

              WINS Configuration: Select Use DHCP for WINS Resolution.

              Gateway: Highlight the info and remove.

              DNS Configuration: Select Disable DNS Options.

              Click OK twice and re-boot.

              Then I just did Dr Mordrids router fix and I'm back on the net.

              A whole 5-10 minutes of service dissruption

              Thanks Doc!!!!!
