  • Sony G400 19in monitor: max res?

Anyone tried 2048x1536 on Sony G400 19in monitor? And 1920x1440?

I have a KDS Avitron 195T (T=Trintron image tube) 19", which appears to be a Sony G400 in drag. This monitor is not advertised to be capable of over 1600x1200, but it was detected as a Sony G400 and the custom Matrox driver is fully functional up to 2048x1536 so....

With that out of the way it looks good at both rez's. The image is clean and crisp and the brightness and contrast are good. The image is stable.

If the controls on the real Sony G400 are anything like the ones on the KDS you can adjust the hell out of it. They are very comprehensive and easy to set up.

Of the two settings you mentioned I most commonly use use 1920x1440 at 32bits & 76hz for doing photo restorations. You should get a graphics adapter with at least 32 megs on board.

One thing you might want to keep in mind is that the larger Sony monitors have two small wires holding the image mask in place. These can barely be seen running across the screen, about 1/4 of the way from the top & bottom.

Unless you look right at or for them they are all but invisible, but some folks think they are defects when they first notice them. They sure aren't enough of an issue to change your consideration of Sony displays, that's for sure.
