  • Boycott XP

i thought i'd post this in soap box because this issue has been discussed many times in general software forum already.

it's just i found this site very interesting and thought i might post it ... it accuses Microsoft of breaking the law, maybe it goes a little overboard (maybe not), anyways, look for yourself.

An article that describes Microsoft's history, marketing strategy and increasingly baroque legal requirements.

All I have to say is this guy has lost any creditably with me...hmm lets look at the stuff posted to this web page:

Interview with an Extraterrestrial (downloadable in Word 7.0 format..so much for boycotting MS!)

Did Life on earth Orginate from Mars? (ok this is acceptable..too a point, once again in MS Word 7.0)

Just looks like someone with too much time on his hands spreading FUD around again....I don't agree with MS tactics all the time, but if want bitch about it....write it up better without all the fire and brimstone and don't have anything about Extraterrestrials on your web page or your creditably goes out the window......

I have'nt read the link, but I will be boycotting XP just because it needs doing. until they get it sorted out and less bloated. Oh, that won't happen, you are right, sorry. I shoulda stuck with 98SE. But oh well.

I actually like XP, but non the less I'm going to switch back to w2k until SP2 arrives. And my soon to come Radeon 8500 will probably make me rip off my hair if I use it in XP.

"Interview with an Extraterrestrial" interesting satire...but that wasn't the objection, correct? Rather, MS Word 7.0...several generations old, '95 or '96, thereabouts. Not too damaging to credibility if one assumes the writer is advocating boycotting post-Win98 MS products using the questionable registration system.

The point he was making was that once you buy software, it should be yours to do with as you please (short of violating the Millenium Copyright Act ) without having to crawl to Brother Bill to beg permission to install it on your machine.

                Linux, anyone?

                    Fix your Windows, says Microsoft

Microsoft has admitted that the newest version of its flagship Windows operating system - touted as the most secure ever - has yawning security holes.

The problems were discovered by a security firm a few weeks ago but announced on Thursday once a fix was ready, and now Microsoft is urging users of its new Windows XP operating system to download a fix.

Left unrepaired, the hole gives malicious hackers the chance to take over a Windows XP machine as soon as it is connected to the internet.

                        heh

I have Windows XP running off 70 MB RAM on startup, which is less bloated than Win9x/Me. As for WPA...what a joke. I had a non-WPA version of XP a month before it was released. If you are not scared of tweaking your system and playing with settings, XP is the fastest OS M$ has made since DOS.

That doesn't necissarily mean I'm not against boycotting M$. They have gone from a software company to a damn eVil corporate bully. Thus I am going to start playing with Linux, starting this week.

Boycotting XP? hah! Do you really think that Bill Gates loses even a minute of sleep?

                            I don't think so.

I'm running WinXP for more than three months now, and despite some small hick-ups, I have to say that I like it.
It's speedy, it's stable and it allows me to do some real multitasking.
Just make sure that you've got accurate drivers and you're home free.
I've got a corporate edition, so the WPA is not required. And for the Picasso-look; there is a setting that switches it all off, making XP look like any old 32-bit Windows-version.

But since my system runs fine with or without the new looks of XP, I've got a 1337 MacOS X-like silver-look on my desktop.

Ever notice that the people who like Windows XP are always insiders who didn't have to go through the product activation? I bought windows 95, 98, and 2000.. they have us rebuying windows anyhow, without all the dirty tricks (which, by the way, only apply to Joe Schmoe poor guy consumer and not to big corporations or insiders). I couldn't care less if the damned OS was the greatest thing since sliced bread, I'm never buying XP or any of their damned crap that requires PA.

If we are supposed to all have some standardized OS, it should not be the sole property of some evil avaricious corporation like Microsoft.
