  • Medal of Honor Demo on G4x0/G550

    Anyone tried this game?
There are nasty things in the readme:
    "Matrox G400 and G450
Frame rate is often below 10 frames per second even at the lowest video settings."

    and
"Video cards with less than 64MB video memory cannot set texture detail to high and texture color depth to 32 bit simultaneously. These cards can get very poor performance at times, so lower your texture detail and/or lower your texture depth to 16 bit"

Do I really need to purchase a Radeon 7/8500 with 64MB to play this game at acceptable frame rate?

Well, I just tried the game.
Ran fine on my G550. I had no "10 fps" rates running at 800x600x16, medium detail textures (have not tried a higher res or detail yet, game defaults to 640x480)
The game itself is not very impressive, though...

Well, just cranked it up to 1024x768, and beefed up some of the advanced option (lighting, shadows, terrain, models, etc), and it still played fine...

That's just because you're using the new beta version of the G550 that's clocked to 3 GHz.

Kruzin is it worth downloading. A friend of mine said it had great graphics (he has a GF2Pro) but he experienced heavy lag on all servers he tested. He also thought that RTCW had a beter gameplay.
          Main: Dual Xeon LV2.4Ghz@3.1Ghz | 3X21" | NVidia 6800 | 2Gb DDR | SCSI
          Second: Dual PIII 1GHz | 21" Monitor | G200MMS + Quadro 2 Pro | 512MB ECC SDRAM | SCSI
          Third: Apple G4 450Mhz | 21" Monitor | Radeon 8500 | 1,5Gb SDRAM | SCSI

I haven't played RTCW, so I can't compare. It does have good graphics (based on the Q3 engine), but the gameplay seemed kinda slow to me. I think the physics in the game are meant to be more "realistic" than most shooters. No rocket jumping in this game...you just go splat

This demo only has one map, so it's pretty limited. I doubt it will stay installed on my machine for very long. If you are on a dial-up connection, you will probably spend more time d/ling it than playing it...

              Hi all!

I d/l-ed Moh finally, and tried it.
Im pretty impressed. The only bug is that I cant play anything other than 640x480 because it locks up right before the nation select window...

It's time to reinstall windows. )

It's definately worth downloading. Addictive, it's just like playing CS for the 1st time. Time flies.

I've had experience heavy lag on some servers (I've got cable), but I suspect it's because of those paticular servers. Most servers run plenty fast.

Runs real great with everything set to max. 1152x768x32, hi quality textures/shadows/characters/lighting/sound, compressed textures, volumetric fog, 64tap anisotropic filtering, 4X FSAA. Runs smooth as silk. But of course I've got a athlonXP and a Radeon 8500 :P

I'm interested on how it really runs on a G400. My sister has my G400/Pentium3 now.
                Primary system specs:
                Asus A7V266-E | AthlonXP 1700+ | Alpha Pal8045T | Radeon 8500 | 256mb Crucial DDR | Maxtor D740X 40gb | Ricoh 8/8/32 | Toshiba 16X DVD | 3Com 905C TX NIC | Hercules Fortissimo II | Antec SX635 | Win2k Pro

Thanks for the info, i've got ADSL Kruzin no slow modem anymore . EvilDonnyBoy my friend has also cable but he experienced heavy lag on all the servers he played, it could be a bug (it's just a demo so we can expect improvement). I will probebly give it a try tonight if I find the time .
