  • g550 o°clocking

I have bought an bulk g550 card. It has Samsung 5.5ns memories, but at first I didn't know have they were clocked. So I downloaded latest powerstip 1.2, which showed 118Mhz core and 177Mhz memories. It seems different against the retail version, which is clocked at 133,166. So I increased clock to 133,200. The performance flew up from 2702 to 2925 points [default] 3Dmark2000. I have to remember that I have too slow proc., only 600@672 {112Mhz}. But the more surprisingly is result in 1024x768x32. There I reached 2050 points and it is about 12% higher than retail G550 with ATHLON 1.2.

    P.S. Isn't fillrate 240,290 too low?

Do you see any artifacts??? If not try to up the frequency some more. Default should be 125, 166 (???)

    Fill rate looks low...

    Tell us how it goes.

Wow, it's been a long time since somebody found their OEM card to be downclocked.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

As with the G450, there does not seem to be a single "default" clock speed with the G550...

No real reason why there should be, since Matrox's marketing is not clock speed dependent the way other companies sometimes are.

Just got a bulk G550. It's at 111/166. Go figure. It's not for me, so i'm not gonna OC. But just a very weird clockspeed.
When I was still a kid, my parents got me a Packard Bell. I've never been happier. Now it's degraded to a foot support.
