ICQ/AOL IM Question

How similar are these programs when it comes to connecting to the internet? I'm having problems with both of them not connecting at work (worked fine yesterday), but I can use MSN messenger without any problems what so ever. I'm wondering if its firewall issue or what.

The newer versions of ICQ (2000b and newer) use the same protocol as AIM. Both use port 5190 to connect to the server. The old ICQ versions (2000a and older) used a different protocol and used port 4000 to connect to the server.
