Anyone have any info on the performance in linux of the G550? I currently have a Radeon 64 DDR VIVO, yes I have sinned!!! Well, the main reason I got it, was that my aging Marvel G400 simply wouldn't play any OpenGL games in linux.... well now I'm suffering that Heavy Metal Fakk2 does not like the Radeon. Understandable, I bought the damnable thing and the 2D quality is even noticeable compared to the very OLD Millenium 2 that is resting nicely in my server. OpenGL performance is of a somewhat minor concern though, since most of the reason I'm interested in the G550 is for the Dual-Head. I'm thinking about starting a programming project (also learning how to program at the same time) and figured the Dual-head would be GREAT for debugging, etc. I currently use Windows XP and Storm Linux 2.0.6 (Updated with some components of Debian Sid). Any advice would be great. If any of you think it'd be best just to wait and see what Matrox has up their sleeves next, then I'll do that. I do have an extra Millenium 2 that I'll put in for the Dual-Head for now, but it'd be nice to have an extra PCI slot that is empty for whatever reason....
Currently I am running a Pentium 3 850Mhz, with 392mb of RAM. So if the G550 would perform admirably with that hardware, then I'd LOVE to go back to the Matrox side of things. Since the 2D quality just looks so blurry on this Radeon compared. I'd ALMOST consider getting a Radeon 8500 for the Dual-Head, but as far as I know, there are no linux drivers for it yet. Laters, and thanks in advance.
