  • Bizzare file sharing problem

This ones got me stumped. I was copying files from one shared drive across the network to a folder on another pc the machine hung during copying one file so I cancelled the operation.
I then got the message about activex scripting being disabled.
I canceled that and tried to copy the files again and nothiong happened. The directory that I was trying to copy to was diplayed as %mydirectory% in the explorer window. I rebooted and tried again same result. Rebooted both machines and the same result. I then noticed that it was only avi files that wouldn't copy the extension that crashed. Anyway I got fed up opened a dos window and copied the lot across that way. Cleared the files from the shared drive and created another avi file and this would copy across without any problems. So what the heck caused it?

      Hello, TP.

I then got the message about activex scripting being disabled.
Check your settings under Tools > Internet Options > Security.
Specifically, "Drag and drop or copy and paste files".

Funny I've never changed it though but I'll check it out. Looks like a buggy win xp to me.

Article says you can only configure the My Computer zone
through IEAK, but that's not true. You can also configure it from:

              HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0

              DWORD 1802 = Drag/Drop/Copy/Paste files.
Check the setting for DWORD 1802 in each zone:

              For reference, my settings are:
              Zone 0 (My Computer) 1802: 0 (enabled)
              Zone 1 (Local intranet) 1802: 0 (enabled)
              Zone 2 (Trusted sites) 1802: 1 (prompt)
              Zone 3 (Internet) 1802: 3 (disabled)
              Zone 4 (Restricted Sites) 1802: 3 (disabled)
