  • Best Driver Combination for MJPEG on Win98SE with Marvel 400?

Since I refuse to give up on the hardward mjpeg (this is only reason I bought the card), I guess Win98 is the only way to go. I kind of had it working under Win2000 but I have since upgraded that to WinXP and I can't get mjpeg to work, yuy2 works okay on xp but my cpu is not fast enough.

So.. back to Win98. What is the best combination of drivers and video tools that work!?

    Thanks.

Others may disagree, but in Win98SE I have stuck with the 1.52 Video Tools and the 5.41 display drivers + Flying Dutchmans YUY2 patch on most of my G400's.

Later builds may work too, but if it ain't broke.....

1.54 Video Tools have a busted YUY2 mode.

I totally agree. And for those in need, 1.52 have easily available Macrovision-cracked drivers to boot.

I run 1.52 against W98SE and have no plans to change.

Agree with Doc, but PD 5.41 and the VT 2.04 (Leaked) combination could be worth to try. IMHO it has a better TV channel setting, but nothing more.
After some fiddling with 2.04 (L.) I am used it in my W98SE boot.
The only drawback is that you can only capture YUY2 in 1/1 resolution with 2.04. And the YUY2 1/1 in PCVCR asks for a fast HD, something around 19 MBps. Capturing with other software ( I like AVI_IO) any YUY2 format captures fine with the right compression, but you need HDD power for the highest format.

YUY2 captures at about 19.x mb/s for sure, but if you use AVI_IO, VirtualDUB or Ulead Video Capture and set the Compression to use the HuffYUV lossless codec this goes down to about 11 mb/s for a 704x480 capture. This without losing anything in terms of quality.

Yes, Doc. It's exactly what I mean.
Don't capture with PCVCR. Do it with AVI_IO or Ulead Video Capture.
