  • OT : Sony DCR-TRV30

    Hi all,
i was thinking that is time for my SVHS Panasonic camcorder to retire and for me to jump on the DV-train. Having looked around to some mini-DV camcorders i am about to buy a Sony DCR-TRV30, but first I want to be sure that the camera can make on the fly (i.e. pass-throu) Analog to Digital and Digital to Analog conversion (especially the latter one). The reason is that i want -most of the time - the edited footage to be exported to (S)VHS tapes.
Also is the TRV30 capable of pure progressive scan in video recording mode or just interlaced ?
Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thanks

According to the web site - it does analogue in and out (passthrough).

The 30 definitely does the pass thru. I have the TRV20, and use it this way from time to time (when I want to capture footage from VHS tapes I recorded with my previous camcorder for use on my puter). And of course, it works the other way 'round too- I can tell the puter to record edited footage back to the tape, and actually record the results on VHS connected to the camcorder.

I don't know about the progressive scan. Unfortunately the TRV30 wasn't out yet when I got the 20 (or I'd have bought it instead, for a few reasons, including the higher resolution still capture).
      "..so much for subtlety.."

        Thanks Phil & Ace,
you see i was not sure if the TRV30 could do the D/A pass-throu and since i live in Greece where if you buy something and you are not satisfied with it you CAN NOT return it back (except if it's a defective product)
