Why don't u create a NTFS partition...? there's no size limit on it.

Anyway... if u tryed to format that partition in 1*80gb and had selected 4K cluster size u won't ever be able to format that.... u'll need at least 16K cluster. That's why i think u should either consider moving to NTFS or splitting your HD in parts 'cuz u'll have a huge slack with 16K.

The limit is 2TB(2048GB).... but to reach that u'll need 64K cluster....!! the fat32 effiency get's near 30% on that cluster size.

Try changing the cluster size to 16K.

None of the 2. Click on the combo box. U should see Default, 512,1024.... but there's a up and a down arrow at the end of the box. Click down it should display 2048 then 4096 and so on.... try to pick 16K.

Go with Quick format... unless u have no other option... Brand new drives normally gives no problems.

I personnally never use it but if u're sure enough that your drive is error free there's no problem.

i got an error that the cluster size was too small !!!

Things worked out well as NTFS i left file allocation to default !! But i need Fat32 ! what should i do ?

Should i go thru a win98 boot disk and just do it all in dos ? will the size be supported then?

SHould i use Partition Magic ?

Well... maybe Win98 FDisk will be able to do the partition correctly... if u don't want to use it and have Partition magic 6 use it it might be faster.

Faster - and yet less efficient. AND you'll have all that slack space. Argh!

And why, exactly, can't the drive be shared with other clients if it's NTFS? Your OS handles the translation - not theirs.

I've recheck the Cluster table... it requires 32K sector for 80gig harddrive. That's why u had the error... sorry i misread the table the first time.

Exactly Grum... but my first thought was that he was using a Dual boot... i might be wrong tho. As I said earlyer with that size of partition I'd either go with NTFS or split in smaller partition 'cuz there's so much slack with 32 cluster. According to Partition magic if i'd use 32k cluster i'd loose ~33% of my space.
