  • Need help with a firmware update.

I am trying to update the mitsumi 4804TE that I have with the firmware of the 4805TE which is identical besides it writes at 8x and runs at 32x.

Unfortunately their update program checks to see what drive you have and it won't let you flash it. (Tried both windows and dos flash tools as well as changing a few small things in the firmware.) if you change too much it won't flash the firmware because of a size discrepancy.

The drive check is contained in the firmware by some identifier I haven't located yet.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can trick this firmware into my burner.

    Just for fun mind you

    Try CD Media World

They have some drives listed that have alternate BIOS cracks to up or improve various burners.

I upped my old Imation 4x4x20 to a Ricoh 6x4x24 about a year or so ago... works a peach

Most likely the same thing will happen as with CD-R99 Media that only a few CD-Writers, like maybe the Mitsumi 4804TE, can really write up to 120 minutes but that most will quit at 90 minutes.

Well.. not what I was looking for but nice to know.

Nope... still no luck.. I changed all the text containing the model number in the 4805TE CIP file to read 4804TE incase it was using that for the comparison... no dice..

I still can't tell if its the CIP file that contains the check or if its the flash program... either way its my new obsession...

(True I could just pick up a 24*10*40 lite-on from work for nothing... but that isn't any fun.)

I once had a 4804-TE which I tried to downgrade the Firmware on !

The flashprogram wouldn't let med do it, so I mailed Mitsumi and they sent me a special winflash program wich could do the job !

Don't know if it will work in your case !
But I can mail it to you .......!

              BTW I now have .... LITE-ON 24102B ... and it ROCKS

Thanks for the page Maggi.. but I had already visited there... I couldn't find anything of use... (except the 3.0d firmware which I had flashed to quite some time ago)

                Kosh

If you could send me that program that would be great. It might be what I am looking for.

try sending it to cbuckton@hotmail.com or cbuckton@excite.com

Even if it doesn't work I could maybe make it work.

BTW veiwing the flash program from their site in assembly hasn't revealed too much... but I am not going to trace 560000 lines of instructions just to find what I am looking for (That and assembly isn't exactly a strong point for me )

Got it to work by using the windows version of the flash program and selecting the firmware to flash then renaming the different firmware with the same name and renaming the proper firmware something different... It didn't work though...

Oh well... maybe I can get it to work with something else...
