    another stoopid question from birdy

    i have the choice of a G400 or a G550. which should i go for?

    Is the G550 markedly better in performance?

    bear the following in mind beofre you answer:

    DVD tv output on the g550 for w2k doesnt work (not on this one anyway)
    The most power hungry game i play is halflife

    I still think the G400 is the best video card Matrox has produced. It is faster than the G550, and does more in hardware.

    The G550 would be a better choice if you're using digital flat panels, or if you really need the higher resolution on the second head.

    Reports of G550 visual quality have been varied, from slightly-better-than-G400, to a notable number of much-worse-than-G400.

    I play CS on my G400MAX, and I wouldn't want to accept any decrease in its less-than-optimal performance.
    Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

      i think you're right.

      It's weird but i dont seem to be able to get shot of this G400

      I have never owned any computer component (with the exception of my commodore 64) for this long. I have had this card (actually i am on my third, but it's the same model) for over 2 years!

      Just goes to show what a great card it must have been to begin with.

      I will get my screwdriver out, the G400 is going back in the main box!
