  • Dragging on desktop causes ghosting

I hope someone can help me with this. Whenever I drag a window on the desktop to reposition it, ghosts of the moving window are created and follow it around until movement of the window stops. This doesn't occur anywhere but on the desktop. If I move a window around inside say Internet Explorer there is no ghosting. Anyone go any ideas?

That certainly sounds like a frame buffer/driver issue to me... I'll ask Haig and see what he thinks

BTW, I sure do miss WOWO and the ice rink at the mall

Right click on your desktop, click the effects tab and uncheck "Show window cotents while dragging" and apply.

          Rags,

Your suggestion worked but only by removing the problem not by solving it. If my old system (Athlon 950/Abit KA7-100) didn't have the problem, why does my new one?

          Greebe,

What do you mean when you say a frame buffer/driver issue? BTW, I *tried* to post this problem over on the Matrox forums but the stupid forum software didn't like my IP address! It thought I was a hacker or something!

            Ms. St. Martin:

            Please let us know:
            - what resolution and color depth you're using
            - how strong your power supply is
            - your current cpu/memory/monitor
            - what other programs you have running

http://support.microsoft.com/support.../Q135/9/61.asp mentions the problem. Basically, when you turn on "show window contents," you demand more out of your video card and processor.

              OrangeJulius,

That pretty much did the trick! I can't remember if those settings were in effect on my old system (the one that burned up), but turning them off (show icons in all colors and text smoothing) got rid of almost all the ghosting. There is just the tennyist amount when I drag a window quickly and that is not enough to be a problem.

Thanks again for a great pointer!!

                Ms. St. Martin,

NP, but don't thank me -- thank Rags -- if he hadn't mentioned "show window contents while dragging,"
I wouldn't of known what to tell you.
