You probably mean your task bar... you can't see the system tray...
    Primary system specs:
    Asus A7V266-E | AthlonXP 1700+ | Alpha Pal8045T | Radeon 8500 | 256mb Crucial DDR | Maxtor D740X 40gb | Ricoh 8/8/32 | Toshiba 16X DVD | 3Com 905C TX NIC | Hercules Fortissimo II | Antec SX635 | Win2k Pro

No, the system tray. He means the area where the clock and the little icons show up.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

correct, the little area right of your taskbar where you see the clock and the icons, which is what i wanna change the color of. This seems to be fine in winME but not in 95/98

          I don't think its possible.....
If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.

Jeremy Clarkson "806 brake horsepower..and that on that limp wrist faerie liquid the Americans call petrol, if you run it on the more explosive jungle juice we have in Europe you'd be getting 850 brake horsepower..."

Yup it is possible. You just have to change something in explorer.exe and then it will display 256 colors in tray instead of 16. I have a patch for Windows 2000 SP1 and forgot where i got it. Try with Google or something to search for 256 color tray patch.

              I compared original explorer.exe and patched explorer.exe from windows 2000 SP1 and 4 bytes are different: range from 7505 (0x1d51) to 7508 (0x1d54).

              Original: ff 74 24 18
              Patched: 6a 11 90 90

              Hope that helps.

I searched around and found THIS page. It has patched explorer.exe files for almost all Windows versions. Enjoy!
