  • Compare Radeon vs GeForce2 GTS??

I'm just curious if anyone has comparisons of a GeForce2 GTS 32MB DDR vs a Radeon 64MB DDR.

I'm putting together a new system for my kid using a 1.4GHz AMD cpu. The shop I plan to use carries these two boards -- the GTS is made by VisionTek $143, and the ATI is $178. (They don't carry any Kyro II boards.)

Most of the hardware sites have pretty dated benchmarks (with old drivers, I'm sure).

I'm sure my kid (9 yrs old) won't notice the difference, but I hope to get some use out of it too -- until I buy myself a new system in 6 months or so.
My rig: P4 3.0GHz; Asus P4C800E; 1GB DDR 3200; AIW Radeon 9800 Pro; WD 120GB SATA; Plextor DVD burner; Liteon DVD reader; Audigy 2ZS; Logitech Z560 4.1; NEC FE991SB

Kid's rig: AMD XP 1600+; 512MB ram; GF4 Ti4600; Maxtor 60GB; Plextor CD burner; Sony DVD reader; SB Live; Cambridge 4.1 speakers; NEC FE991SB

    Other kid's rig: Athlon 2700+; ASUS A7N8X mobo; 512MB PC3200 ram; GF4 Ti4600; Maxtor 80GB; SB Live; Cambridge 2.1; NEC FE991SB; Liteon DVD-ROM

Overall, the GTS will be slightly faster, esp. in OGL and in Win2k. But it'll have crappy 2D, which was the reason for me to get the Radeon. But at that price difference I'd really consider the GTS - when I bought the cards, the Radeon was cheaper than the GTS (my VIVO cost about the same as a GTS card without any video-functionality, not even TVOut).

If you're looking for Radeon benchmarks maybe I can provide some (if I've got the game/demo). However only for Win2k, since I've dumped Win98 - which shows that the Radeon Win2k drivers can't be THAT bad. They're sometimes not that great performing, but no major stability issues.

In Finland the VIVO costs ~ 15$ more then a ASUS GTS but you realy might want to consider a Kyro 2 or ati 7500 instead!
According to the latest official figures, 43% of all statistics are totally worthless...
