  • Resolution for Plasma Screens

    hey all...

I need to develop a last minute project for a client [in launching a portal !] for the regions largest Computer Show ! Now the video will run on a few Plasma screens i believe 42/52 inch not sure if it will be 62!? now the project will be developed in Premiere / After Effects. What should the final resolution be, what is the best compresor for the job. I usually render to uncompressed, and then run it thru Cleaner for compression. Watcha guys think ?

The safest option would be to author a DVD ,and have a standalone DVD player at the show (simple to setup /no crashes or jerky playback and anyone can set it
      up)

but if you're going to be Hi tech , playing back from a computer with ,
SVGA input to the Plasma and a Spliter for the 4x4 wall
it will be limited by CPU horse power, D4 would look good on 4X4
but that still depends on the quality of you equipment.

PS. mpeg2 has the lowest CPU usage

Thanx Zeb, but but i was more concened about the resolution and compressor i should use for the final render. the client will be handeling all the hardware setup, they just want a video file. I gues .avi or.mov !

What kind of hardware is availible for playback? End how much storage space?

The old Cinepak from Radius is actually quite good if you got lots and lots of storage, however the bitrate can get very(!) high. If this is a concern, go for an MPEG2 encoder (I would recommend TPMGenc).

Hope you find what you're looking for.

I'm missing something? won't what you create be dependent on the client's video wall hardware?

In sports bars I've seen 2x2 video walls. There seems to be two modes of operation:

            (1) a single video feed is input and 1/4 sections are sent to the four monitors. From a normal NTSC signal this looks like crap unless you are really far away from the screens.

            (2) each monitor gets a seperate video feed and plays it "full screen" normally this is four different games, but it seems to me that if you have higher than NTSC resolution source available, encoding it N times so that 1/N the the area is full NTSC resolution you'd get a much nicer video wall display. But then you'd need N syncronized (genlocked) video feeds so this may not be practical.

If the client can't clearly specify what he needs (wants, will pay for) you're IMHO asking for trouble.
